Carrie F. Angelo
Carrie F., wife of Wyatt B. Angelo, died at 4:30 this morning at her home, 960 Clark Street, after a long illness. She had been at Lakeside hospital, Oshkosh, from December 9 until July 19 when she was returned to her resident here. The fatal issue of her illness had been foreseen for many months, and it was only her strong vitality and will power, as well as incessant and tender care, which enabled her to survive until today.
Burial will be at Wautoma Thursday afternoon, with brief services at the home here before the departure of the funeral party. Mrs. Angelo, who was a daughter of Ira P. and Mary E. Coon, was born at Wautoma. She was married at Plainfield in 1903 and six years ago came to Stevens Point to live. Besides her husband, she leaves her mother and two brothers, Ira L. Coon of Plainfield and Royden J. Coon of Ladysmith. Her father, who was a well know business man of Plainfield, died in 1906. [Stevens Point Journal (Stevens Point, Wis) 30 Jul 1918, p6]

Mary Stewart Baumann

Services were held in Brownsville, Texas, in November for Mary Stewart Baumann, 69, of Brownsville, who died Nov. 23, at Valle Community Hospital there.

Cremation followed the service.

Mrs. Baumann was born in Plainfeld, Wis., on June 19, 1916. She attended schools there, and graduated from St. Agnes School of Nursing in Fond du Lac.

On Jan. 26, 1946, she married Russell R. Baumann of Glenbeulah.

Survivors include her husband, her father, William Stewart of Plainfeld, and a brother and sister.

Milton L. Baumgartner
Milton L. Baumgartner, 80, of Plainfield passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 26, 2006, at the Wild Rose Community Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 1, 1926, in Brooklyn, the son of Leslie and Oline (Rote) Baumgartner. He married Janice E. Patterson in 1947. She preceded him in death Nov. 14, 2004. Milton lived in the Brooklyn area until moving to Evansville in 1961. Upon retiring, Milton and his wife moved to the Plainfield area to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren. Milton was a custodian for many years at the Evansville Grade School until his retirement. He loved the outdoors, especially puttering around the yard and in the garden. He is survived by his daughter, Cindy (Randy VanHaren) Baumgartner of Plainfield; two grandchildren, Ben and Abby; his mother, Oline Baumgartner of Madison; and one sister, Margie (Willard) Knott of Verona. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife, Janice, he was preceded in death by his father, Leslie; and sister, Mardel Casida. Memorial services will be held Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. in the Leikness & Stahl Funeral Home, Plainfield. Henry Blair, father of Leander Blair, died at the home of his son Monday morning March 5, 1906. Had he lived until the 13th of May next, he would have been 104 years of age. A Mrs. Chase, of Wautoma, Wisconsin, died lately, aged 16 years, 6 months and 10 days. Mrs. C. was married about three years ago, and has left three little children to mourn a mother's loss - a sad commentary on the error of such early marriages. Thomas Chittenden
Thomas Chittenden, son of Thomas J. Chittenden of Berlin, Wis., died in that city, April 20th, aged 77. Mr. Chittenden was born in Williston Vt., on the 20th day of February 1791. He was the only son of Noah Chittenden, who was the oldest son of Thomas Chittenden, the first Governor of Vermont. He graduated from the University of Vermont in 1809. He was a soldier in the war of 1812, was commissioned a Second Lieutenant, and served during the war as Quartermaster of the 31st Regiment of the Vermont Infantry. [Green-Mountain Freeman. Edith S. Clark
Services Held at Wild Rose Church for Mrs. Clark, 89
Wild Rose, Wis: Funeral services for Mrs. Edith S. Clark, 89, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Noble and the Rev. W. T. Williams officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Clark died at the Wild Rose Hospital at 10:30 p.m. Thursday. She had been in failing health for several years. She was born at Sun Prairie, Wis., March 28, 1864. Her father was killed in the Civil War when she was a few months old and at an early age she, her mother and a sister came to Wautoma. She was married at Wautoma March 25, 1888 and shortly thereafter came to Wild Rose. Mrs. Clark started teaching when she was 17 years of age. She was a member of the Wild Rose Women's Club and the Women's Society of Christian Service of the Methodist Church.
Surviving is one daughter, Mabel C. Davis, two grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were George Dopp, Lewis Jenks, Howard Simon, Charles Sage, Leo Sarnowski and Leon Young. Soloist for the funeral was Everett Jones. [The Oshkosh Northwestern (Oshkosh, Wis) 23 Mar 1954, pg 13]

Deceased was born and reared in the town of Mt. Pleasant at the present residence of her father, a few miles west of this city. On July 4, 1876, she was married to Mr. E. and in the fall of that year moved with her husband to Wautoma, Wis., where he is now engaged as publisher of the Waushara Co. Argus

Died December 15, 1903 aged 57 years, died at the Veterans Home. She was born in the state of New York. Mrs. Ferdon took a discharge from the Home, with her husband December 27, 1902 and was re-admitted December 1, 1903. Her husband died some months ago. The remains were taken to Plainfield for burial.

Mrs. Sally R. Ferguson who left here about three weeks ago to attend a daughter who was very ill in Plainfield, was taken sick and died September 2, 1895. Mrs. Ferguson was born in Dodge County, Penn. in 1827, moved to this state in 1861. The remains were interred at Plainfield beside her husband. She leaves four children Mrs. D. Chamberlain and Mrs. Brewster of Plainfield; Mrs. Winchell of Dorchester; and Mrs. S. Cameron of Sheridan.


Eugene Fitzpatrick

A pedestrian killed in a Waushara County accident sent Wisconsin’s 1980 traffic fatality toll to 823, compared with 818 on this date last year. Eugene Fitzpatrick, 89, of Redgranite, was fatally injured when he was struck by a car Tuesday morning on Wisconsin 49 in front of his home. Mass Slayer dead at 76

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Ed Gein the grisly killer who 27 years ago drew national attention to the tiny Waushara County town of Plainfield, died this morning at the Mendota Mental Institute. He was 76.

Authorities who arrested Gein in November 1957 found such grisly items as preserved human heads and lampshades and chair seats made out of human skin at his farmhouse.

Gein had been at the Mendota institute in Madison since May 1978. He was transferred there after having been almost continually at Central State Hospital at Waupun since his arrest.

Gein burial

Private burial for Ed Gein, 77, a former Planfield area resident, took place in the Plainfield Village Cemetery. No services were held. Gaseric Funeral Home, Plainfield, handled arrangements.

Mr. Gein died Thursday morning at Mendota Mental Institute, Madison, of respiratory failure, according to institute officials.

Died April 8, 1901. She was born in Ireland in 1823, coming to this country, was married to Mr. Harrison in Canada in 1854, soon after coming to Wisconsin to make their home in the town of Poy Sippi. A husband and two sons are left at home besides a married son in Washington and two married daughters one in Berlin, Wisconsin and one in Dakota, a son and daughter having died some years ago.

Lester E. Hill
Lester E. Hill, 74, Plainfield, died unexpectedly at 4:20 p.m. Sunday at his home. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Goult-Gasperic Funeral Home, Plainfield. The Rev. Edward M. Ketcham, Plainfield United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Plainfield Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Hill was born March 31, 1902, in Oakfield, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Viene C. Hill. He married Irene Wing on June 15, 1932, at Belvidere, Ill. He lived in Waukesha until moving to Plainfield about 29 years ago. He was a grocery store owner. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert, Plainfield, and John, McHenry, Ill.: two daughters, Mrs. David (Marian) Buckholt, Wautoma, and Mrs. James (Darlene) Vroman, Plainfield; one brother, Elwyn, Eagle; one sister, Mrs. Evelyn Wrighton, Waukesha; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. HARVEY HOM DIES FROM PARALYTIC STROKE IN TOWN OF LEON MONDAY

Harvey Hom, brother of John and B. P. Hom of this city, died Monday, Dec. 19th at his home in town of Leon, near the village of Poy Sippi after an illness of six weeks following a paralytic stroke. Deceased was fifty-two years of age and an industrious prosperous farmer residing on the old homestead where his grandfather settled nearly seventy years ago, this being the home where both his father and grandfather died. Deceased leaves his widow and two brothers and several more distant relatives to mourn his untimely death.

The funeral was held Wednesday. John Hom attended the funeral but the physical condition of B. P. Hom prevented him from making the trip.

Wautoma, Wis., Nov. 11 - [Special] The funeral of John Kaminski of Wild Rose, who was accidentally shot Monday, was held in this village Wednesday morning at the Catholic church. It was one of the largest funerals ever held in this county, upwards of 100 teams being in line.

Bertha Emma King

She was born in the Town of Deerfield on March 27, 1886. Her parents were John and Pauline Wandry. On March 27, 1906 she and Robert King were married. He preceded her in death May 16, 1917. She married Herman King in 1918. He preceded her in death Oct. 24, 1963.

Mrs. King was a member of the Assembly of God Church, Wautoma, where the Rev. David Broberg officiated at the funeral service. Burial was at Hillside cemetery, Coloma.

Surviving are two daughters: Violet (Mrs. Wilbert Schultz) and Lillian (Mrs. Milford Schultz), both of Wautoma; a sister in law, Emma King of Ripon and five grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Floyd Herbert Lewin, 64, Coloma, died Sunday morning, April 22 at Adams Memorial hospital at Friendship.

Born in Clark county Aug. 1, 1908, to Anton and Louisa Lewin, he married Dorothy Gutche in Marquette county on Nov. 18, 1936.

He is survived by his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Edward (Mary Lou) Oligney; one son, Richard of Beloit; one brother, Alfred of Reedfield; three sisters, Mrs. Dora Young, Almond, Mrs. Grace Gutche, Oshkosh, and Mrs. Flora Ostrander, Plainfield. He had three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held April 25 at the Prince of Peace Lutheran church, Coloma, with the Rev. Bruce Lundberg officiating. Burial was in the Coloma cemetery.

ASHLAND, Wis., May 16. – Jefferson B. Mitchell died yesterday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. R. Prince. The deceased was a veteran of the civil war, belonging to Company I heavy artillery and a brother of United States Senator John Mitchell of Pennsylvania. William Rash
A former Waushara county resident, William Rash, 79, died Nov. 7, 1975 at Randolph. He was born April 11, 1896 in Adams county, the son of Sam and Jane Gethers Rash. He was first married to Alfia Crothers, then to Mabel Reeilley. He farmed most of his life in Waushara county, then moved to Beaver Dam in 1973. He was a veteran WW I. Shirley Rose
Princeton - Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon for Shirley Rose, 38, who died here Wednesday of a heart attack. The Rev. Walter Stroschein will officiate at the services at 2 o'clock at St. John's Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Spiritland Cemetery at Almond. Friends may call at the Wachholz Funeral Home. Mr. Rose was born in Wautoma April 5, 1917, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Rose, Wautoma. He was married in Wautoma Sept. 30, 1936. His wife died in 1954. Surviving are two sons, Donald and Larry; a daughter, Sharon, all at home; his parents; two brothers, Thorwald and Clifford, both of Wautoma, and five sisters. Source: Unknown; Oct 13, 1972-Buried in Hillside Cemetery, Coloma); transcribed by Angie LietzauScott Patrick Runnels, 32, Wisconsin Rapids, died Friday at Wautoma Memorial Hospital. He had been a patient there since he was injured in an auto accident several days previously.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Wautoma. The Rev. Dennis Worzalla will officiate and burial will be made in Hillside Cemetery at Coloma.

Friends may call at the Hamilton Funeral Home at Coloma from 4 p.m. Sunday until noon on Monday, then at the church until the time of the services.

A memorial fund in lieu of flowers has been established in his name.

Mr. Runnels was born June 3, 1940, at Berlin a son of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Runnels Sr., now of Coloma. He married Margaret Kopack on Nov. 16, 1963 at Wautoma, and they lived at Wisconsin Rapids, where Mr. Runnels was employed by Consolidated Papers, Inc.

He is survived by his wife; four sons, Scott, Mitchell, William and David, and one daughter, Mary Elizabeth, all at home; his parents, at Coloma; one brother, James, Coloma;and four sisters, Mrs. Mary Krubscak, Mrs. Jean Gohlke and Misses Kathryn and Ann Runnels all of Coloma.

Bertha Schlueter

Mrs. Bertha Schlueter, 82, former resident of Coloma and Wautoma, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 1972 at the Marshfield Convalescent Home.

Mrs. Schuleter was born in Germany on Dec. 30, 1889, the daughter of Louis and Bertha Schilling. She was married to Adolph Foemmel in 1910. He preceded her in death. She married Charles Krug in 1955. He preceded her in death. In 1964 she married Ernest Schlueter. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include three daughers, Mrs. Glenn (Naomi) Roehl, Marshfield; Mrs. Lyle (Lydia) Zimmerman, Chili, Wis., and Mrs. Darwin (Esther) King, Coloma; three sons, Silas Foemmel of Chili; Samuel Foemmel of Hollywood, Fla., and Paul Foemmel, Sheboygan; three sisters, Mrs. August Foemmel of Chili, Mrs. William Bandt, Chili, and Mrs. Walter King, Coloma; two brothers, Ferdinand and Ezra Schilling, both of Chili; 17 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.

She was proceded in death by a grandson and a sister, Mrs. Arthur Lindow.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Assembly of God church Wautoma, with the Rev. David Broberg officiating. Burial was at the Hillside cemetery, Coloma.

Pallbearers were six of her grandsons, Kenneth Roehl, Duane King, Richard Foemmel, Gregory Foemmel, Dennis Foemmel and Steve Foemmel.

Emma E. Schmudlach, 69, rural Hanco*ck, died Nov. 2 at Community hospital, Wautoma, following a long illness.

She was the daughter of Charles and Mary Schoultz, rural Coloma.

Mrs. Schmudlach is survived by her husband, Rhinhold, a daughter, Shirley Hanco*ck a brother, George Schoultz, also of Hanco*ck, and two sisters, Amelia Hanco*ck and Mrs. Clark Bliegke, Wisconsin Rapids.

Funeral services were held Nov. 5 from the Hamilton funeral home, Hanco*ck Rev. Carlson officiated. Burial was at Hillside cemetery, Coloma.

Wautoma, Wis., Dec. 3 [Special] - The funeral of Mrs. C. Straw, an old and highly respected lady of this town, was held here yesterday and was largely attended. Deceased was about 70 years of age and leaves several sons and daughters.

Wautoma, Wis., July 29. – The funeral of John Waala, of Wild Rose was held from his late residence yesterday. Deceased died Saturday evening after a long illness of typhoid pneumonia. He was a former hardware merchant of this village and had held the offices of town clerk and treasurer for a number of years. He is survived by a wife and several children. Died February 4, 1902 a former resident of Plainfield, was instantly killed at Eau Claire, by being caught in the shafting while engaged in oiling some of the machinery in the Dells Paper and Pulp Co.'s sulphite mill. He was 42 years old and was the son of Frank A. and Mary Walker of Plainfield. The body was brought to Plainfield for burial.

Mrs. Wengel was born in Coloma on Dec. 24, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Leach.

In 1945, she graduated from the Coloma high school. She is also a graduate of the Madison Business college.

She had been a member of the Federation of Woman's club, a member of the First Methodist church in Madison and active in Girl Scout work.

On October 8, 1949, she was married to Sheldon Wengel of Madison. Most of her life was spent in Reedsburg, Wis., and since 1968 she was residing in Pompano Beach, Fla.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Coloma United Methodist church with Rev. Robert LeCount officiating. The pallbearers were nephews of Mrs. Wengel.

Mrs. Wengel is survived by her mother, Mrs. Helen Leach of Coloma; sisters, Mrs. Laura Mae Blackmore of Orlando, Fla., and Mrs. Ann Heller of Coloma. Her father, Edward Leach, and brother Richard Leach, both of Coloma, preceded her in death.

Valerie (Val) Ann Wilkins, of Plainfield went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006, as she was surrounded by numerous family members and friends at St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point. She was born Aug. 30, 1955, in Del Rio, Texas, to Byron and Marcella (Kortas) Goodwin. She married David H. Wilkins on May 29, 1977, in Plainfield. Val was a proud and loving mother and grandmother of five children, Ian (Jennifer Wilfahrt), Brooke (Daniel) Barker, Adam (Kasie Stroik), Rory, Tyler and her beloved granddaughter, Hailey Ann, daughter of Adam and Kasie. Val spent her free time in the kitchen, reading and nurturing family and friends. Val spent her life serving people in her career, as a friend and as a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Val is survived by eight brothers and sisters, Reinie (Gregg) Ruffalo, Ron Goodwin, Terry Goodwin, Wendy (John) Caves, Hal Goodwin, Tim (Donica) Goodwin, Tom (Mariah) Goodwin, and Pat (Julie) Goodwin; and four in-laws, Cristi (Al) Johnson, Curt (Sue) Wilkins, Miles (Lynn) Wilkins and Peter Wilkins. She is further survived by 33 nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends. A visitation at Leikness and Stahl Funeral Home, Plainfield will be held Friday Nov. 3 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. at the Hanco*ck Weslyan Church with Pastor Al Spitler officiating. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. through the time of service. Burial will be in Plainfield Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at the Hanco*ck Community Center from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with Pastor Gary Zacharias sharing during dinner. Widow, 58, Found Slain

PLAINFIELD, Wis. A 58 year old widow missing from her store since early in the day was found slain Saturday night in a field on a nearby farm. A man was taken into custody for questioning.

Mrs. Bernice Worden's son Frank, told authorities that he entered the store about 5 p.m. and found the cash register was open, blood stains on the floor and his mother was missing.

Mrs. Worden's body was found on the Ed Gein farm seven miles southwest of Plainfield. A Waushara County sheriff deputy found the body.

Sheriff Art Schley refused to say how Mrs. Worden died or described the nature of her wounds.

Schley said the State Crime Laboratory has been called in. The man taken into custody by the sheriff was not identified.
