An old Pioneer resident of Plainfield, Mrs. Nellie Adelle Salter, passed away at the Bethel Convalescent Home at Arpin at 3:00 A.M. Monday morning, Mar. 9, 1953. She had spent two years in the Soule Convalescent Home at Stevens Point and was moved to the Home at Arpin about two and a half months ago. Mrs. Salter was a cheerful home loving person and always ready to help her friend and relatives. Altho blind at the time of her death, she always had a pleasant smile for everyone. The former Nellie Adelle Bound, daughter of the late Franklin and Mary Bound, was born July 10, 1866 at Plainfield. She lived all of her life in the Plainfield vicinity until she was taken to the Rest Home. she was united in marriage to Thomas Salter. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Harry (Belva) Adams of Mineral Wells, Texas; eight grandchildren and seven great grand children; two sisters, Mrs. Orrin Perry of Hanco*ck and Mrs. Albert Urban of Plainfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Boyd Kelley, who died several years ago, and an infant daughter, Marie; one brother, John Bound; and a sister, Mrs. Robert Rathermel of Plainfield. The funeral is scheduled for this afternoon, Thursday, at 2 from the Goult Funeral Home. Rosilla Schultz, 90, Wautoma, died Sunday evening in the Wautoma CareCenter.She was born Oct. 16, 1895, in the town of Oasis, the daughter of Edward M.and Emma H. Rawson Walker. She married Edwin "Swede" Schultz Aug. 21, 1930,in Plainfield. Mrs. Schultz was a lifelong area resident and assisted in the operation ofthe former Schultz Motor Co. In Wautoma with her husband and his brother formany years. She was a member of Wautoma Grace United Methodist Church, theWautoma American Legion Auxiliary, the Wisconsin Rapids Chapter Daughters ofthe American Revolution, and the Zarah Chapter No. 56, Order of Eastern Starof Plainfield. She was a resident of the Wautoma Care Center since 1983. Surviving are her widower; and one sister, Margaret Jacobsen, WisconsinRapids.Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Grace United Methodist Church,Wautoma, with the Rev. Virgil Holmes officiating. Burial will be in theWautoma Union Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Leikness Funeral Home,Wautoma, and tat the church Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. until the time ofservices. Services by the Wautoma Chapter No. 198, Order of the EasternStar, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. HANco*ck - Nita M. Seeley, 93, formerly of Hanco*ck, died Saturday morning in Janesville. She was born Jan. 2, 1892, in the town of Deerfield, the daughter of Curtis and Adelaide Starks. She married Raymond Seeley Nov. a5, 1911, in Hanco*ck. He died in June 1965. Mrs. Seeley and her husband ran Seeley's Jersey Dairy in Hanco*ck for a number of years. Surviving are two daughters, Evelyn Parker, Janesville, and Ruth Stuessy, New Glarus; six grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Services will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. in Hamilton-Ayars Funeral Home, Hanco*ck. Burial will be in North Deerfield Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from noon until the time of services. There has passed from among the circle of her loved ones, one whose life was pure, whose sympathies were keen, and her generous heart ever prompted her to deeds of love and kindness. Mrs. Hattie Weldon Serles, younges daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Weldon, was born in the town of Plainfield August 11, 1860 and passed away April 8 1914. On Dec 2 1880 she was united in marriage to D. Edgar Serles and to this union were born five children, of whom four are living. Mrs. Lena Pierce of Plainfield, Bert of Ashland, Frank and John at home. Their eldes son Charley died at the age of seven months. She was a woman whose acts and deeds influence others to seek the Lord, doing good that others might profit thereby, was the chief end and aim. Always a kind and affectionate wife and mother, a good neighbor and a firm friend, ready to assist in the hour of need. She has been a fathful christian for the past eighteen years and at the time of her death was a member of the Baptist church. She was very earnest in church work and devoted to her Sunday school class. She has been a member of the Eastern Star for the past thirteen years. She was one who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She leaves to mourn her loss, besides a loving husband and four children, one brother John Weldon, and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Rozell, both of Plainfield, also a sister, Mrs. Mary Cornell of Prairie Grove, ARK. and tow grandchildren, little Irma and Nita Norine. The funeral was the largest held at Campbell Corners for some time. The service was conducted by Rev. I. C. Phapstock, who spoke comforting words from 11 Cor. 5-1. The floral offerings were as follows: The beautiful pillow by relatives and old friends. The Easter and calla lillies by S. S. class, bouquet of Easter lillies from the Star, Mr. & Mrs. James Ingle, carnations, Dr. and Mrs. Lindores, Mr and Frank Spees, callas, Mrs. L. H. Weldon and Mr & Mrs. I.L. Coon, callas, Mr. & Mrs. J. Serles, carnations, Mr. & Mrs. A. LaBudde, carnations. The family carnations. Thus ended the beautiful life on the Easter Sabbath. Raleigh N. Sherman, 68, Plainfield, died Friday in St. Michael's Hospital,Stevens Point.Mr. Sherman was born July 8, 1918, in the town of Pine Grove, the son ofEdison and Harriet Sherman. He married Hildegard Biederwolf on June 24,1944, in Wauwatosa. Mr. Sherman lived the past 30 years in Plainfield, threeyears prior to that in Richford; and eight years before that in Wauwatosa. Mr. Sherman was a construction laborer and was a member of the CatholicKnights of Wisconsin, Milwaukee Chapter. Surviving are his widow; three daughters, Mrs. John (Marie) Romppainen, NewBerlin; Mrs. Richard (Joanne) Detlor and Mrs. Steve (Kathleen) Bartsch, bothof Plainfield; three sons, Donald, Nekoosa, Duane, Orlando, Fla., and Roger,Plainfield; two sisters Mrs. Harry Hanson, Bancroft, and Nora Pichelman,Plainfield; and 12 grandchildren. Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Paul's Catholic Church,Plainfield, the Rev. Linus Steckbauer officiating. Burial will be inPlainfield Village Cemetery.Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. today at the Gasperic Funeral Home,Plainfield, with a prayer service at 8:30 p.m. Roy E. Sherman, 88, Federal Dam, MN., died jan. 28 at Itasca MemorialHospital, Grand Rapids, Mi. He was born and reared in Wautoma, and graduated from high school inAppleton. He served with Company A, 150th Machine Gun Battalion, 42nd Division in WorldWar I from July 20, 1917 - May 16, 1919. He moved to Federal Dam in 1928 and was postmaster there for several years.He also worked as a fishing guide on Leech Lake. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1966. He was a member of CassMasonic Lodge 243, for which he served as master, and Order of the Eastern StarChapter 165, of which he was past patron. Surviving are his wife, Jessie; a son, Larry, Federal Dam; two sisters, FloyStrom, Homewood, Il., and Fern Sherman, Wautoma; six grandchildren and eightgreat-grandchildren. Private family services, were held at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 30 at Rowe Funeral Home,Grand Rapids. PLAINFIELD- Mrs. Isabella Shippee, 88, Plainfield, died unexpectedly Friday in Craig, Colo. Mrs. Shippee was born July 17, 1888, in Hanco*ck, the daughter of William and Mary Stillwell. She was married to Edward J. Shippee in 1914. He preceded her in death in 1951. She was a teacher for many years in the Plainfield school. She was a member of Grange, the Baptist Church Circle, Iola Homemakers Club and the Senior Citizens. She is survived by two sons, Merlin, Turlock, Calif., and Robert, Santa Rose, Calif.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Plainfield, with the Rev. Ralph Deal officiating. Burial will be in the Plainfield Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Goult-Gasperic Funeral Home, Plainfield. In the death of Mrs. Samuel Sigford which occurred at the home of her son, Seth, in the village of Mt. Morris, on Friday, March 1st [1912], there passed out of this life one of the old settlers of Waushara county, she with her husband and family having lived on the same farm which tghey bought of the government since 1955.Mrs. Sigford, whose maiden name was Maria Salsbury, was born in Toledo, Ohio, April 2nd, 1836, and when 16 years of age came to Calumet county, in this state in the company with her mother. In 1853 she was married to Samuel Sigford, from the union of which, fifteen children were born. Of this number seven are still living. They are Lewis, George, and Frank, now living in Oregon, Sylvester of Wheaton, Minn., Seth of Mt. Morris, Mrs. E. C. Chandler of Chicago, Mrs. Mariette Walker of Waukau, Mrs. Sarah Brace of Milwaukee, and Miss Lettie who was living at home with her mother. In August 1897 Mr. Sigford died. and since that time the widow who has been in very poor health has been tenderly cared for by her daughter Lettie and son Seth. The funeral took place from the residence on Sunday, March 3, Rev. Brooks of the Pine River officiating, with interment in the Howe Corners cemetery by the side of her husband. Sigford Rites Funeral Services were held Monday afternoon from the Jones Funeral Home for Wesley Arthur Sigford of St. Paul, Minn. a former resident here. Rev. Robert Hoffman officiated and burial was in Oak Hills Cemetery. The deceased was born at Wild Rose Sept. 8, 1887 and died July 16, 1949 at Anker Hospital St. Paul, Minn., at the age of 61 years. Surviving him are one son Leroy Sigford of Leavenworth, Kansas, one sister, Mrs. Fred Hofer of St. Paul, Minn., two brothers Ardon of White Bear Lake and Verdon of St. Paul Minn. Accompanying the remains here were Mr. & Mrs. Fred Hofer, Mr. & Mrs. Verdon Sigford and Ardon Sigford an son." Contributed by Joan Hill
